As with any parent, my children have some times caused me frustration. Whenever I would find my anger growing toward them, I would sing part of a song from the musical Bye-Bye Birdie. I am not sure of the title of the song, but I would sing a few bars in my head.
Singing the tune would remind me that I was and never will be perfect. I could no longer be angry. I often marvel at God's patience and mercy with mankind. After all, He is "perfect in every way." When dealing with other people I try to remember this verse: "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable --- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy --- think about such things." Philippians 4:8 I try to apply that to people because I feel that is what God does when He looks at us. It also helps guide me toward the goal of being a woman such as Deborah. Paul continues: "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me --- put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:9 As we strive to learn righteous judgment, we look toward the most righteous and merciful Judge of all. |
