To prepare for this Bible study, please read the women in Christ commentary, God’s Grace in All Its Truth.

Read Colossians Chapters One through Four. Note the author and to whom the letter is addressed. This study guide will focus on Chapter One.

1. Colossians 1:1-2 What can we learn about our Christian responsibility and God’s provision from verse 2?

2. Colossians 1:3-8 Note the words faith, love, hope, truth, gospel and grace. What do you learn about each of these words in this passage?

3. Colossians 1:9-14 What did Paul ask God to give the saints in Colosse in his prayer? What response did he want the brothers [and sisters] in Christ to make? What do you learn about “the kingdom” in this passage?

4. Colossians 1:14-20 What do you learn about the Son of God, Christ?

5. Colossians 1:21-23 What is the gospel? Summarize it in your own words.

6. Romans 10:8-15; John 3:14-21 What is the response to the gospel that assures a person “will be saved?”

7. Colossians 1:24-29 What is the mystery “now disclosed to the saints?” Who are the saints*?

8. John 1:16-18; Ephesians 2:4-9 What do you learn from these passages about grace and salvation?

9. Romans 8:1-4; Colossians 3:4-17 What does “in Christ Jesus” mean? How does being “in Christ Jesus” free us from condemnation?

10. Colossians 1:6b What is the result of hearing the gospel and understanding grace? How can you apply this by attitudes and actions to yourself and your congregation in practical ways?
