To prepare for this Bible study, please read the women in Christ
commentary, Follow the Way of Love The Example of Follow the Way of Love. 1. II Peter 1:1-11 What is this precious faith which was given to us? What is its source? Why does God want us to increase in the qualities of faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love? 2. John 3:3-8; Galatians 5:22-23; I John 4:7-8; Luke 11:9-13 How does God give us the characteristics listed in II Peter 1:5-7? 3. Romans 8:9-10; John 15:1-17 How does a person “remain in Christ?” What clues do you see in John Chapter 15? What evidence do you see in your own life that God is increasing these qualities in you? 4. I Corinthians 12:29-31; 13:1-13; Revelation 2:1-7 How can we deceive ourselves into thinking we are who God wants us to be? What do you think the cure for this deception might be? 5. Matthew 5:14-16; John 13:34-35; Proverbs 27:5 What is the purpose for the love God imparts to us by his Spirit? 6. I John 4:7-21; 5:1-5; Galatians 5:6 Love (agape) can only grow in the soil of faith out of the Root which is Jesus. Where faith is, love will be also. Both need to be used and strengthened. How does God increase our love and faith? What efforts can we make to increase them in our lives? 7. Revelation 2:4-5 According to The NIV Exhaustive Concordance, some form of the word love translated from the Greek words agape, agapao, and agapetos is used 320 times in the New Testament. Considering the importance God has given to this fruit of his Spirit, how can you put restoring your first love to the top of your list of priorities? (The Amplified Version is especially helpful with Revelation 2:4-5: But I have this [one charge to make] against you, that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first--you have deserted [Me], your first love. Remember then from what heights you have fallen, Repent---change the inner man to meet God’s will--and do the works you did previously [when first you knew the Lord]. Or else I will visit you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you change your mind and repent.) |
