INTRODUCTION TO BIBLE STUDY GUIDE

These studies do not tell you what the Bible says. The scriptures given direct you to specific topics. The questions are intended to help you focus on the study. No answers are given. You have to read and search the scriptures for the answers. We encourage you to use Bible helps such as concordances and commentaries. However, scholars and theologians often disagree on interpretation and application. The best study help comes from God. Pray. Allow yourself to be honest with your reactions, but don't jump to conclusions. It takes time to read and meditate on all the Bible says on various topics. Feel free to ask questions in your prayers. You will be amazed to discover that God does answer the sincere seeker. You will also be surprised that the Bible may not say what you might think it does on many subjects. Keep a notebook. A loose leaf one would make it possible to add thoughts and additional information as you learn more about different subjects. Welcome to an exciting search.

Bible Study Guide:

Abounding in Faithfulness

By Scarlett Stough

To prepare for this Bible study, please read the women in Christ commentary, Faithful and True.

I. Read Exodus 34:6 in several English translations of the Bible. (This study focused on the KJV and the NIV.)

1. In what ways can the English word “truthful” be interchangeable with the word “faithful?” In what ways might they differ or complement one another?

2. Why do you think God wants us to know him as being “abundant in goodness and truth (KJV)” and as “abounding in love and faithfulness (NIV?)”

3. How can knowing God as Truth and as Faithful affect your daily life?

II. Read Malachi 3:10; Acts 17:11; Romans 12:2; I Thessalonians 5:21; I John 4:1 and Luke 4:12.

1. What are some appropriate ways to examine the Bible’s claims about God?

2. What type of tests are we warned against and why?

III. Read John 13:34-35; Psalm 86:11; and John 8:31-32.

1. How can people who want to know God recognize those who already do? Why would this be important?

2. What must we do if we want to recognize truth and God who is truth?

IV. Read John 8:45-47; 14:6-7, 15-17 and II Thessalonians 2:9-12.

1. Why is truth often rejected?

2. In what ways do lies prevent good relationships?

3. How can we become receptive to truth and so receptive to knowing God?

V. Read II Peter 1:3-4; II Thessalonians 2:13-17 and Revelation 3:14, 19-22; 19:11.

1. How can we Christians be certain that we will “share in the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ” at his return?

2. The name Jesus calls himself echoes the name God revealed to Moses. How can the followers of Jesus today reflect this name of God, Faithful and True, in daily life?
